The "All Senses" Exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Haikyuu!! anime is currently underway in Tokyo, running from July 13th to August 4th. This event marks a decade since the anime first aired, spanning four seasons and 85 episodes from April 2014 to December 2020. I had the chance to delve into the exhibition and here’s what you can expect.
As you walk towards the entrance, the familiar cries of "Chance Ball! Go, Karasuno!" echo down the hallway, transporting you straight into the gymnasium vibes. The setup is perfectly primed for an immersive trip down memory lane.
Right at the entrance, the exhibition hits you with a montage of iconic moments starting from Shoyo Hinata’s first touch of a volleyball. The journey continues through his first encounter with Tobio Kageyama, the intense inter-high qualifiers, training camps, and the thrilling Spring High prelims. You can almost hear Coach Ukai’s inspiring words and feel the thrill of their victories as if reliving the past ten years with the team.
Following the initial displays, the next stop is the Voice Multi-Angle Theater, where key matches featuring Hinata and Kageyama are revisited on a giant screen. The surround sound system is so powerful, it feels like you’re standing on the court yourself. The selection of matches is a surprise, guaranteed to reignite your love for Haikyuu!! and remind you why it’s so captivating.
Exiting the theater, you enter the Character Focus Area, where dynamic visuals of the diverse characters are showcased in vibrant 3D displays. You can hunt for quotes from your favorite characters, which adds an interactive element to the experience. My favorite character, Kei Tsukishima, is highlighted here, including one of his best quotes: "I'll pave the way." As you get closer to the displays, you can hear the characters' voices, immersing you deeper into the Haikyuu!! universe. A pro tip—listen closely near Tsukishima's exhibit; you might catch Kuroo's tips on being an ace, definitely worth your attention.
The Team Focus Area reviews the seven powerhouse schools, including Karasuno, Aoba Johsai, Nekoma, Date Tech, Shiratorizawa Academy, Fukurodani Academy, and Inarizaki. Here, not only can you see team jerseys and captain uniforms, but they are also available for purchase in the merch area. Deciding which one to take home is a challenge—they're all so tempting!
The exhibition concludes with the Original Drawing Area, where exclusive artworks from the past ten years of the Haikyuu!! anime are on display, including special anniversary illustrations. This area is a treasure trove of visuals that have graced magazines, CD jackets, and calendars. The sense of nostalgia is palpable, especially when you see illustrations of merchandise that sold out before you could grab them. The collection is so extensive, you might wish you could live here just to keep admiring them!
As you approach the exit, a collection of key visuals from the series lines the walls, creating an art museum atmosphere that lets you deeply appreciate the history of Haikyuu!!. In the merchandise area, exclusive goods featuring these anniversary illustrations are on offer, ranging from acrylic stands to tapestries. Personally, the team jerseys caught my eye again, as did a "Fly High!!" banner towel I regretted not buying earlier. Seeing them in person might just sway your decision.
