Exciting news for anime fans! "MONSTERS Hyakusanjou Ryuu Samurai Kiwami," an anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's short story "MONSTERS," will premiere on WOWOW On-Demand starting at midnight on July 23. "MONSTERS," written by a young 19-year-old Eiichiro Oda before the start of his iconic series "One Piece," is set in a town plagued by dragons and follows the backstory of the samurai Ryuma in this swashbuckling drama. The tale first appeared as a one-shot in the "Weekly Shonen Jump Special Autumn Special" in 1994 and was later collected in the Jump Comics anthology "WANTED! Eiichiro Oda Short Stories" in 1998.
This eagerly awaited debut of the anime "MONSTERS Hyakusanjou Ryuu Samurai Kiwami" is directed by Seong Ho Park, known for his work on "Jujutsu Kaisen" Season 1 and the "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" movie, with production by E&H Production.
The voice cast includes:
- Yoshimasa Hosoya as Ryuma, the young samurai wandering in search of the "warrior’s spirit."
- Kana Hanazawa voices Flare, the only survivor from a town devastated by a dragon attack seven years ago.
- Hiromi Higuchi as Cyrano, a skilled swordsman on a quest to recover a stolen dragon horn.
- Mitsuaki Madono plays Diar, a less skilled swordsman.
- The dragon, a soaring symbol of "terror," is voiced by Kazuya Nakai.
In Japan, "MONSTERS Hyakusanjou Ryuu Samurai Kiwami" was initially available on Netflix and Prime Video as of January 2024 and can now be enjoyed on WOWOW On-Demand as well.
