The latest episode of the new series “Demon Slayer: To The Hashira Training,” titled “I Even Ate Demons...” aired on June 9th, and fans couldn’t stop talking about the emotional interactions between Sanemi and Genya Shinazugawa. (Warning: This article contains spoilers, so proceed with caution if you haven’t watched the episode yet!)

“Demon Slayer,” based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga, which has sold over 150 million copies worldwide, follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy whose family is slaughtered by demons. To save his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps and embarks on a perilous journey.

The anime series, produced by ufotable, began with “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” in April 2019. Since then, it has released several arcs, including “Mugen Train,” “Entertainment District,” and “Swordsmith Village.” The 2020 movie “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” broke records, earning around 51.7 billion yen globally.

In last week’s episode, “To Bring a Smile to One's Face,” Tanjiro participated in training with Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito at the Swordsmith Village. Fans buzzed on social media about Muichiro’s differing treatment of Tanjiro compared to other demon slayers.

Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji

This week’s episode saw Tanjiro finishing his training with Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and moving on to the next training with Serpent Hashira Obanai Iguro. Unlike Mitsuri, who welcomed Tanjiro warmly, Obanai awaited him with a spiteful expression. The reason? Obanai is jealous of Tanjiro for spending time with Mitsuri, whom he has feelings for. Fans on social media found Obanai’s jealousy both adorable and funny, with comments like “Jealous Obanai is cute,” “He’s the Jealous Hashira,” and “Once again, the side characters get the worst treatment.”

After training with Obanai, Tanjiro heads to Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa’s dojo, where he meets his fellow slayers Zenitsu Agatsuma and Genya Shinazugawa. Overhearing a conversation between Sanemi and Genya, Tanjiro witnesses Sanemi harshly rejecting his own brother, saying, “I don’t have a brother. I’ll kill you,” and “Quit the Demon Slayer Corps since you have no talent.” However, there’s more to Sanemi’s harsh words than meets the eye.

The complicated relationship between the Shinazugawa brothers left fans emotional, with comments like “They’re so messed up,” “Just get along,” and “I can’t stop crying thinking about their future.”

Next week’s episode, “The Strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps,” airing on June 16th, will follow Tanjiro and Zenitsu as they head to the remote mountain training grounds of Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima. Along the way, they reunite with Inosuke and Murata, but their reunion is short-lived as they face Gyomei’s rigorous training.
