The latest chapter in the "Space Battleship Yamato" remake series, "Be Forever Yamato: REBEL 3199," began screening July 19, 2024, starting with Chapter One. Coinciding with this premiere, the next installment, Chapter Two, is set to debut on November 22, accompanied by the release of a new teaser visual and a special teaser video.
"Be Forever Yamato: REBEL 3199" reinterprets elements from the third film of the original series, "Be Forever Yamato," released in 1980, and restructures them into a seven-chapter series comprising 26 episodes. The '3199' in the title suggests a narrative set a thousand years in the future. The series explores the complex relationship between Earth and the antagonistic Dezarium. Following the revelations at the end of the previous chapter, the story continues to expand.
In Chapter Two, the massive Dezarium fortress, Grand Reverse, makes its descent at the new bay area. Scaldart, the holy president of the conquering Dezarium, addresses the people, revealing a millennium-long shared history with the proclamation "We are you." They have been searching for the "Fragments of Iscandar" in an effort to alter Earth's bleak future. In a surprising twist, it turns out they were not the enemies after all.
Meanwhile, the former Yamato crew has reached the Icarus Observatory, where the reborn Space Battleship Yamato is stationed. However, Susumu Kodai, grieving the loss of Yuki Mori, finds himself unable to lead. Unbeknownst to him, his beloved Yuki is being cared for by Major Alphon of the Dezarium.
Who exactly are the Dezarium, and what is their real agenda? As the Yamato embarks on a journey to uncover all the answers, the announcement of the release date also introduced a new teaser visual by Kiya Asamiya for "Chapter Two: Red Sun Sortie," along with the special report video. The teaser visual has been featured on posters included with the "Chapter Two: Red Sun Sortie" Movieticket cards, available since July 19 at theaters nationwide and online shopping sites. It's a must-see for fans.
