The MONOGATARI Series: OFF MONSTER Season anime recently unveiled a new promotional video for its Nademonogatari arc this Sunday, accompanied by a sneak peek of its opening theme “caramel ribbon cursetard” performed by characters Nadeko Sengoku (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) and Yotsugi Ononoki (voiced by Saori Hayami).
In a related announcement, YOASOBI disclosed that their new theme song “Undead,” crafted for The MONOGATARI Series: OFF MONSTER Season, is set to debut this Monday. The song draws inspiration from an original story penned by NisiOisin. Fans can look forward to the anime’s exclusive streaming on the ABEMA platform in Japan beginning July 6.
The series will see Akiyuki Simbo returning as chief director, with Midori Yoshizawa at the helm as director. Fuyashi Tou rejoins the team to coordinate the series scripts alongside Simbo, with Miku Ooshima also contributing. The familiar faces of Akio Watanabe, Nobuhiro Sugiyama, and Kana Miyai are back as character designers and chief animation directors, with Satoru Kōsaki once again composing the series’ music.
Animation studio SHAFT is on board to adapt the Off Season and Monster Season novels from NisiOisin’s Monogatari series.
The journey of NisiOisin’s novels began with the two-volume Bakemonogatari story in 2006, which laid the groundwork for the first anime adaptation in 2009. The series’ “final season” concluded with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2014, hinting at a forthcoming “MONOGATARI Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari.”
The narrative continued through four “Off Season” volumes—Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari—released between October 2015 and January 2017. These volumes weave a tapestry of short stories scattered across different times in the series timeline.
“Monster Season” commenced with the Shinobumonogatari novel in July 2017, expanding the story into the college years of the characters, with subsequent novels including Yoimonogatari, Amarimonogatari, Ōgimonogatari, and the two-volume Shinomonogatari, which was released in August 2021.
The most recent addition to this expansive series is Ikusamonogatari, launched in May 2023, continuing to build on the rich narrative landscape of the Monogatari franchise.
