Get ready for a blast from the past as the iconic anime "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" returns with its first new installment in 15 years, titled "New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT." Set to hit the airwaves and streaming platforms in 2025, this announcement was celebrated with a special staff discussion video on TRIGGER's YouTube channel, featuring none other than director Hiroyuki Imaishi, available from July 5th.
The original "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" first graced screens from October to December 2010. Crafted by the then GAINAX-affiliated Hiroyuki Imaishi, this unique series set in Daten City—a city under siege from ghosts exploiting human desires—follows two fallen angels, Panty and Stocking, who are more naughty than nice, as they hunt these malevolent spirits.
In a significant move last July, TRIGGER, now led by Imaishi, secured the rights to the series from GAINAX and teased the start of this new project. The anticipation has only grown since.
The upcoming "New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT" promises to deliver the same wild and uproarious 'hyper-crazy battle action human comedy drama' that fans have come to love. With Imaishi at the helm and TRIGGER producing the animation, expectations are sky-high for what this notorious angelic duo will get up to next. Given TRIGGER's track record with blockbuster hits like "Kill la Kill" and "Promare," the hype is certainly justified.
Adding to the excitement, TRIGGER's YouTube channel will premiere the first in a series of main staff talks on July 5th, featuring insights from Hiroyuki Imaishi, series planner and concept planner Hirokai Wakabayashi, character designers and art directors Shigeto Koyama and Sushio, and animation director Katsuhiko Sakamoto, who will dive into their creative process and the series' fresh visuals.
