The first anime movie adaptation of the app game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, titled Project Sekai the Movie: The Broken World and The Miku Who Can't Sing, has been announced. This movie features an entirely original story, introducing a new version of Hatsune Miku not seen in the game.
Launched in September 2020, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! has surpassed 39 million downloads worldwide. The game includes a wide range of music from the latest hits such as "Vampire," "KING," "Roki," "Charles," and "Tell Your World," all accompanied by 3D music videos. It features 20 unique characters, including Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO, offering a story that unfolds across two worlds: the real world and "Sekai."
The newly announced anime movie, Project Sekai the Movie: The Broken World and The Miku Who Can't Sing, presents a popular virtual singer, Hatsune Miku, in her first film, bringing to life a completely new story not depicted in the game.
A teaser video were also unveiled, showcasing an unprecedented version of Hatsune Miku cloaked in noise. In the bustling subculture hub of Shibuya, this version of Miku sits quietly alone, unnoticed by passersby, and intriguingly, her reflection is not seen in the puddles at her feet. The melancholy look on Miku's face begs the question: what is she thinking, and what does her presence signify?
The animation for this film is handled by P.A. Works, known for works like "SHIROBAKO" and "Skip and Loafer." The teaser video made from scenes in the movie features a new appearance of Hatsune Miku and original Project Sekai characters depicted in theater animation for the first time.
The teaser ends with startling captions, "Encountering a Miku who cannot sing" and Miku's narration, "My voice doesn't reach the people I want to reach. I want to know how to deliver a song. Teach me about you," featuring a character with distinctive long black hair, Hoshino Ichika, along with other familiar faces from "Project Sekai."
Who does this unfamiliar version of Miku want to reach with her song? Why can't she sing? Stay tuned for more updates.
The anime movie adaptation of Hatsune Miku titled "Project Sekai the Movie: The Broken World and The Miku Who Can't Sing," will premiere in Japanese theaters on January 17, 2025.
