The movie "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK" has been dominating Netflix’s “Today’s Top 10 Movies (Japan)” list since its exclusive streaming debut. Following this success, it has been announced that a “Second Watch Party” will be held on June 23, featuring voice actors like Shugo Nakamura, who plays Ryota Miyagi, along with other Shohoku and Sannoh members.
"SLAM DUNK" is a popular manga by Takehiko Inoue, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 1990 to 1996. The series, which follows the growth of high school basketball players, has sold over 120 million copies in Japan. "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK," written and directed by Inoue himself, premiered on December 3, 2022, and has grossed over 15.5 billion yen, making it Japan’s highest-grossing film of 2023.
To celebrate its re-release in over 300 theaters nationwide starting August 13, Netflix began exclusive streaming on June 10. The film has been a hit on Netflix, staying in the top 10 every day until June 21. The first watch party, held on the streaming debut, saw a huge turnout with 1.35 million participants on X (formerly Twitter).
