NEWS: Exciting news for all “Re:Zero” fans! The 3rd season of the popular anime “Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World” is kicking off with a bang. The first episode, titled “Theatrical Malice,” will be a 90-minute special. Even better, it’s set to premiere in theaters across Japan for a limited two-week run starting August 30, 2024. Along with this announcement, we’ve also got a second key visual and the official trailer released. Plus, Chiaki Anzai is joining the cast as a new character, and we’ve got fresh details on the opening and ending themes!
“Re:Zero” began as a light novel series by Tappei Nagatsuki, first serialized on the novel website “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” in April 2012 and later published by MF Bunko J in January 2014. The story follows Subaru Natsuki, a boy suddenly transported to another world, who uses his power to return by death to fight against a cruel fate.
The first season of the TV anime aired from April to September 2016, with the second season split into two parts: the first half from July to September 2020 and the second half from January to March 2021. There were also two OVA episodes. The much-anticipated 3rd season is set to start in October 2024.
Episode 1 of the 3rd season, “Theatrical Malice,” will be a 90-minute special equivalent to four regular episodes. And starting August 30, fans can catch this episode in theaters nationwide for a two-week limited screening. Don’t miss the chance to experience the grand opening of the 3rd season on the big screen. For these early screenings, online movie tickets (MoviTicke) will be available, and buyers will receive exclusive wallpapers and a chance to win luxurious prizes in a lottery.
The newly released second key visual showcases an epic confrontation set in the Watergate City of Priestella, featuring Emilia’s camp and various royal candidates against the Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult. This is gearing up to be the biggest battle in “Re:Zero” history.
The theater trailer also gives us a first look at the new character Sirius Romanée-Conti, voiced by Chiaki Anzai, the Sin Archbishop of Wrath. Plus, we get to hear Konomi Suzuki’s new opening theme “Reweave” for the first time. Anzai, Suzuki, and the band MYTH & ROID, who perform the ending theme “NOX LUX,” have all shared their excitement and comments.
Additionally, the world premiere of the 3rd season will take place at Anime Expo 2024 in Los Angeles on July 5. The 90-minute special episode will be shown to the world for the first time. Japan’s own premiere will follow on August 10, with the first episode screening for the first time in the country.
