At Anime Expo on Thursday, Warner Bros. Japan showcased the latest teaser trailer, primary visual, and character designs for its upcoming CG anime film, 'Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League.'
The film will see Junpei Mizusaki, known for his work on the opening animations of 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure' and 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders,' and as the CEO/founder of Kamikaze Douga, return to the director's chair. He will co-direct alongside Shinji Takagi, who previously directed units for 'Blood: The Last Vampire.' Kamikaze Douga, which animated the original 'Batman Ninja,' will produce the animation for this sequel. The creative team includes returning members such as scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima, character designer Takashi Okazaki, and composer Yūgo Kanno.
Veteran voice actor Kōichi Yamadera will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The original 'Batman Ninja' anime was released digitally by Warner Bros. in April 2018 and on home video in May 2018, featuring both Japanese and English audio tracks. It made its theatrical debut in Japan in June 2018 and was broadcast on Toonami in October 2021. In the film, Batman is transported to Japan's Warring States period, where he confronts villains like The Joker, who have risen as feudal lords.
In addition, a manga adaptation of 'Batman Ninja,' created by Masato Hisa, began serialization in Monthly Hero's magazine in June 2018 and concluded in September 2019. This manga adaptation was awarded the Seiun Award in August 2020.
